Washed Clean and Kept Clean

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭਏ ਊਜਲ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਤ ਕਾਰੋ ॥

I have become spotless and pure, singing the Sacred Praises of the Lord; I shall never again be dirtied.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਡੋਰੀ ਰਾਚੀ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੋ ॥੧॥
charan kamal si-o doree raachee bhayti-o purakh apaaro. ||1||
My awareness is focused on the Lotus Feet of God; I have met the Infinite, Supreme Being. ||1||

In plain words

Singing the wonders of the One, I feel washed all the way clean — and this time it stays.

My whole attention rests on the One like a thread tied to something steady, and in that stillness I met the vast, endless Being face to face.

Loving attention washes the heart clean and keeps it clean.
The deeper layer

Singing the One's praise washes the heart clean, and it stays clean.

Nirmal means spotless. Oojal means bright and shining. Singing the One's goodness makes the heart both. And the verse says it will "never be dirtied again." This clean feeling is settled, not fragile.

Doree raachee means a thread tied on. The thread is my attention, tied to the One's lotus feet, the safe place to rest. Think of a kite: its string keeps it steady while it flies high. Through that steady, loving attention, bhayti-o purakh apaaro — I met the endless, boundless Being.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you can give your full, steady attention to — and how does it feel afterward?
