Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In kindness, the One keeps the saints safe; the One's lotus feet are firm ground under their feet.

Nanak says: palms pressed together, I come to the shelter of the One who has no end.

After the honest hard look, the shelter is simply open to you.
The deeper layer

The One keeps the saints safe, and anyone can come into that shelter.

Kar kirpaa prabh sant raakhay — in kindness, the One keeps the saints safe. Charan kamal adhaar — the One's lotus feet are their support. The lotus feet mean the One's steady presence, like firm ground under your feet.

Kar jor means with palms pressed together. Saran aa-i-o means I have come to the shelter. Nanak comes to the purakh apaar, the Being who has no end.

After the hard, honest look in the verses before, the door is simply open. Think of coming in from a storm. Someone opens the front door, and it is warm inside.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you go, or who do you turn to, when you need shelter?
