The World Is Like a Dream

ਸੁਪਨ ਰੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

The world is a dream.

O my companion, why are you so enticed by the Enticer? Enshrine the Love of Your Beloved within your heart. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

This whole world is like a dream, and its endless show does not quite hold when you reach out to touch it.

So why let it charm you away from what is real? Keep the love of the One safe inside your heart.

Naming the passing show as a show loosens its grip on you.
The deeper layer

The world is a dream (supan sansaar) whose show does not hold when you reach for it (mithnee bisthaar) — so do not be charmed away from the Beloved kept in the heart. Naming the show as a show loosens its grip.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that looked huge at the time but faded like a dream?
