The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the ultimate ecstasy, bliss, happiness, peace and tranquility. The fear of death is dispelled by meditating in remembrance on the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.

The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is the boat, O Nanak, to carry us across to the other side. ||2||5||134||

In plain words

Holding the Name brings a deep, settled joy — peace, ease, and a happiness that stays. When you remember the One who knows your heart from the inside, even the fear that used to grip you loosens its hold.

The shelter of the One melts away the weight the world piles on. Nanak says: the Sangat is like a boat that carries you safely to the far shore.

The Sangat is the boat that carries you safely across.
The deeper layer

The Naam is called sarab kusal — every kind of peace and ease. Remembering the antarjaamee, the One who knows the heart from inside, loosens fear.

And the saadhsang is pictured as a boat carrying a person across the wide water of the world: the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One.

A Question to Sit With

When has being around the right people helped you get through something hard?
