A Dream You Cannot Keep

ih sansaar sagal hai supno daykh kahaa lobhaavai.
This whole world is just a dream; why does seeing it fill you with greed?
jo upjai so sagal binaasai rahan na ko-oo paavai. ||1||
Everything that has been created will be destroyed; nothing will remain. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

This whole world is like a dream — so why let the sight of it fill you with wanting more and more?

Everything that comes into being will one day pass; nothing here gets to stay.

Nothing here stays, so grasping for more never fills you.
The deeper layer

Ih sansaar sagal hai supno — the whole world is a dream. Greed for what is bound to pass makes little sense once you see it clearly. So let go of grasping, and hold the world lightly.

A Question to Sit With

When has wanting more of something not made you any happier?
