O Nanak, without the Lord, I cannot live, even for an instant. The Name of the Lord is glorious and great. ||8||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The great seekers of long ago — Sanak and his brothers, Brahma, Indra — were dyed in love for the One, and found their harmony there.
Nanak says: without the One I cannot live even for a moment. The Naam of the One is glorious and great.
The longing for the One is the oldest, most shared song there is.
Sanak, Brahma, Indra: the famous seekers of old found their harmony in the same devotion. The longing is universal and ancient. And the cry from the start comes back: not a single instant without the One.
A Question to Sit With
Does it change how you feel to know countless people before you have longed for the same things?
