The Melody That Wells Up

ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥

Through the True Word of the Shabad, the celestial melody wells up, and the mind is lovingly focused on the True Lord.
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥੬॥

The Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Inaccessible and Unfathomable Lord, abides in the mind of the Gurmukh. ||6||

In plain words

From the True Word, a quiet music rises up inside — a natural, easy melody — and the mind rests on the True One.

The Name of the One who cannot be grasped or fully known comes to live in a heart turned toward the Guru.

Sit with what is true, and a quiet music rises on its own.
The deeper layer

Sitting with the True Word makes a quiet music rise inside.

Saachai sabad sahj dhun upjai means "through the True Word, a natural melody wells up." The Sikh tradition often speaks of this inner music. It is a joy that sings inside you, all on its own. Think of humming a tune before you even notice you started. Nobody asked you to. It just came, because you were happy.

Then the mind rests with love on the True One. Agam agochar means beyond reach and beyond what the senses can grasp. Niranjan means spotless and pure. The Name of that One comes to live in the heart of the gurmukh, the one who turns toward the Guru's teaching.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever felt a quiet joy well up inside for no outer reason?
