Surrounded by Wonders

ਦੇਖਿ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਚੇਤੇ ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
daykh bismaad ih man nahee chaytay aavaa ga-on sansaaraa.
Even gazing upon the wonders of the Lord, this mind does not think of Him. The world comes and goes in reincarnation.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੫॥
satgur sayvay so-ee boojhai paa-ay mokh du-aaraa. ||5||
Serving the True Guru, the mortal comes to understand, and finds the Door of Salvation. ||5||

In plain words

We are surrounded by wonders every single day. Still the mind forgets to notice the One behind them, drifting along in its restless round.

But the one who serves the Guru wakes up, understands, and finds the door that opens into freedom.

Wonder is all around us — the trick is remembering to notice.
The deeper layer

We are surrounded by wonders, and still the mind forgets the One behind them.

Daykh bismaad — even while looking at amazing things, ih man nahee chaytay — this mind does not remember the One. Aavaa ga-on sansaaraa — so the world keeps coming and going, round and round.

Satgur sayvay so-ee boojhai — whoever serves the True Guru, living the teaching, comes to understand. Mokh du-aaraa is the door to freedom, the way out of that restless circle.

Think of walking to school past trees, birds, and clouds every day and never looking up. Then one morning you really see them. The wonder was there the whole time.

A Question to Sit With

What everyday wonder do you walk past without seeing?
