In plain words

In the Sangat there is a hidden treasure — the Naam itself, and there the One is found. By the Guru's grace your heart lights up, and the darkness inside lifts.

Iron that touches the magic stone turns into gold. Nanak says that meeting the Guru, you receive the Naam, and together you remember it — something ordinary in you is quietly turned into something shining. Those whose treasure is goodness get to see the One for themselves.

The Sangat can quietly turn something ordinary in you into something that shines.
The deeper layer

In the Sangat, near the Guru, an ordinary heart turns to gold.

Satsangat naam nidhaan hai — the treasure of the Naam is in the Sangat, the true gathering, and there the One is found. Gur parsaadee ghat chaannaa — by the Guru's grace the heart fills with light and the dark is gone. Lohaa paaras bhaytee-ai kanchan ho-ay aa-i-aa — iron touches the paaras, the legendary stone, and becomes gold. Jinh kai potai punn hai — those whose treasure is goodness receive the One's darshan, the blessed sight.

A Question to Sit With

When have you come away from the Sangat feeling brighter than when you arrived?
