O Nanak, praise the Giver of peace forever; with your tongue, savor the Lord. ||2||

In plain words

We come into this world with nothing and leave with nothing — that is simply how existence flows, and there is a strange freedom in remembering it. When something you love is taken away, it helps to know it belonged to the One all along; it was always on loan.

So who is there to stay angry at? Someone turned toward the Guru accepts the One's will and finds a quiet sweetness in it. Nanak says to praise the Giver of peace always. Let your voice keep returning, gently and gladly, to the One who gives all of it.

Everything is on loan — holding it lightly turns loss into peace.
The deeper layer

Everything belongs to the One, so there is no one to be angry at.

Naangay aavnaa naangay jaanaa — we come with nothing and go with nothing, by the Hukam, the One's will. Jis kee vasat so-ee lai jaa-igaa — the One who owns a thing takes it back, so who is there to be angry with? Holding things loosely lets the anger go. Gurmukh hovai so bhaanaa mannay — one turned toward the Guru accepts the One's will and, at ease, drinks in the One's sweetness. Praise comes out glad and easy.

A Question to Sit With

Is there something you are gripping tightly that might feel lighter if you held it more gently?
