The One That Does Not Change

naaree tay jo purakh karaavai purkhan tay jo naaree.
The woman is transformed into a man, and the men into women.
kaho kabeer saaDhoo ko pareetam tis moorat balihaaree. ||4||2||
Says Kabir, God is the Beloved of the Holy Saints. I am a sacrifice to His image. ||4||2||

In plain words

Every role a person can hold can trade places with its opposite.

Kabir says: through all of it, the One stays the Beloved of holy people, and to that One I give myself completely.

Everything trades places except the One at the center.
The deeper layer

Everything in the world can change, but the One stays the same.

Kabir finishes his list. He says even women and men can trade places. Every role a person holds can change.

Then he lands on the one thing that never turns. The One is the preetam, the Beloved, of the saadhoo, the holy people.

His last word is balihaaree. It means "I would give anything for You." It is a way of saying he gives himself completely, with love.

Think of the North Star. All night the other stars wheel across the sky, but it stays in the same place. The One is like that.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing in your life that has stayed true no matter what changed?
