Build a Raft for the Journey

aagay ka-o kichh tulhaa baaNDhahu ki-aa bharvaasaa Dhan kaa.
So build a raft to the world hereafter; what faith do you place in wealth?
kahaa bisaasaa is bhaaNday kaa itnak laagai thankaa. ||1||
What confidence do you place in this fragile vessel; it breaks with the slightest stroke. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Build yourself a little raft for the journey ahead. Money cannot carry you across.

And this body is a delicate clay pot; the smallest tap can crack it. So do not lean your whole self on things that break.

Build your life on what carries you, not on what breaks.
The deeper layer

The raft (tulhaa) is what you build to carry you across life's crossing, and it is not made of money. The body is a delicate clay pot that the smallest tap can crack. Fragility is simply how things are; the trouble is leaning your whole self on things that break.

A Question to Sit With

What in your life feels solid but might be more fragile than it looks?
