I touch my forehead to the feet of the Saints. My eyes long for their dust.

By His Grace, we meet God; O Nanak, I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to Him. ||2||3||17||

In plain words

I bow my head low to people who live with love and wisdom; I would gladly be as humble as the dust their feet walk on.

It is by grace that we meet the One. Nanak says, I would give my whole self, again and again, for that meeting.

Greatness is being humble enough to learn from holy people.
The deeper layer

Charan santan — the feet of the holy — and dhoor, their dust, are images of deep humility: being willing to learn from those further along the path. The closing line is pure parsaad, grace: we meet the One by grace, which is always already here; you become open to it rather than earning it. Bal bal jaaee is the language of a heart ready to give everything for that meeting.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone whose kindness or wisdom you look up to, and what have they taught you?
