The Peace I Asked For

ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਉ ਹਰਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਸਾਵਉ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਤਸੰਗਾ ॥
har sayva-o har ridai basaava-o har paa-i-aa satsangaa.
I serve the Lord; the Lord abides within my heart. I have found my Lord in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.
ਐਸੋ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਮਨੋਹਰੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ਮੁਖ ਮੰਗਾ ॥੧॥
aiso mili-o manohar pareetam sukh paa-ay mukh mangaa. ||1||
So I have met with my enticingly beautiful Beloved; I have obtained the peace which I asked for. ||1||

In plain words

I serve the One and keep the One in my heart; I found the One in the Sangat.

I met my beautiful Beloved, and the peace I had been asking for finally came.

The peace you long for is found in living close to the One.
The deeper layer

Har sayvau, har ridai basaavau — I serve the One and keep the One in my heart, found in the satsang, the Sangat. Meeting the manohar preetam, the beautiful Beloved, brings sukh mukh mangaa — the very peace the heart had been asking for. Longing, met.

Satsangaa is the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. A song comes alive when a whole room sings it, and the One is found the same way.

A Question to Sit With

What is a kind of peace you have been quietly hoping for?
