The One Turned Away Is Welcomed Home

chhootar tay gur kee-ee sohaagan har paa-i-o sugharh sujaanee.
I was a discarded bride, and the Guru has made me a happy soul-bride. I have found the Elegant and All-knowing Lord.
jih ghar meh baisan nahee paavat so thaan mili-o baasaanee. ||1||
That home, in which I was not even allowed to sit - I have found that place in which I can dwell. ||1||

In plain words

Once I felt turned away and unwanted, and then the Guru welcomed me and made me glad. I have found the wise and graceful One.

The very place where I was not even allowed to sit became the home where I now belong.

No one is beyond being welcomed home.
The deeper layer

A bride once sent away is made sohaagan, joyfully wed: the one turned away is fully welcomed and made glad. The reversal is complete: jih ghar meh baisan nahee paavat — the very place she was not even allowed to sit — becomes the home where she now belongs. No one is beyond being welcomed home.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever felt left out and then welcomed? What did that welcome mean to you?
