The Guru has implanted the medicine of the Lord's Mantra within me, and I have met with the All-knowing Lord God. ||1||

In plain words

I gathered up my craving, my anger, my greed, my pride and my envy. I handed the whole pile away as a gift.

In their place, the Guru planted the medicine of the One's Name deep in my heart. And then I met the One who knows everything.

The heavy feelings get lighter the moment you stop feeding them and hand them over.
The deeper layer

The things that tangle the heart can be given away, and the Guru gives medicine in their place.

Guru Arjan names five inner tangles: kaam, craving; krodh, anger; lobh, greed; mad, pride; and matsar, envy. These show up in everyone.

Look at what he does with them. He does not fight them. He offers them up. "Arap sagal daan keenaa" means he handed them all away, like a gift.

Then the Guru plants an aukhadh, a medicine, in his heart. That medicine is the Name. Think of a backpack full of heavy rocks. You set them down, and someone hands you a water bottle for the road.

Emptying out and healing happen together. And then he meets the One who knows everything.

A Question to Sit With

If you could hand one heavy feeling away like a gift today, which one would you choose?
