Verse 2 of 3

With Every Breath

ਜੇਤੇ ਸਾਸ ਸਾਸ ਹਮ ਲੇਤੇ ਤੇਤੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
jaytay saas saas ham laytay taytay hee gun gaa-i-aa.
With each and every breath I take, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਬਿਛੁਰੈ ਘਰੀ ਨ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਸਦ ਸੰਗੇ ਜਤ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
nimakh na bichhurai gharee na bisrai sad sangay jat jaa-i-aa. ||1||
He is not separated from me, even for an instant, and I never forget Him. He is always with me, wherever I go. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

With every single breath I take, I sing the goodness of the One — praise becomes as natural as breathing.

The One is never apart from me, not even for a moment, and travels with me wherever I go.

Remembering the One can become as steady and natural as your own breathing.
The deeper layer

Jaytay saas... taytay — as many breaths, that many praises: the ideal of simran, remembering, woven into breathing itself, the rhythm of being alive. And the companionship is total: sad sangay jat jaa-i-aa, always with me wherever I go — never bichhurai (separated), never bisrai (forgotten).

A Question to Sit With

What is something you do so naturally that it is almost like breathing?
