Seated in Every Heart

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਆਜੋਨੀ ਸੰਭਉ ਸਰਬ ਥਾਨ ਘਟ ਬੀਠਾ ॥
paarbarahm aajonee sambha-o sarab thaan ghat beethaa.
The Supreme Lord God, beyond birth, Self-existent, is seated within every heart everywhere.
ਭਇਓ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਾ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਚਰਣੀਠਾ ॥੧॥
bha-i-o paraapat amrit naamaa bal bal parabh charneethaa. ||1||
I have come to obtain the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the Lotus Feet of God. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Highest One — never born, needing nothing to bring it into being — sits quietly inside every heart, in every place.

The sweet Name was placed in my hands, and I pour out my whole self in love toward the One.

The same One that is beyond all things is also seated quietly inside every heart.
The deeper layer

Aajonee (beyond birth) and sambha-o (self-existent) are words from the Mool Mantar, and here they come close: this same unborn Vastness is sarab thaan ghat beethaa, seated in every heart, everywhere. The infinite and the intimate are the same One. Receiving amrit naamaa is the gift that follows.

A Question to Sit With

Does it feel different to imagine the One as huge and far away, versus seated right inside you?
