A Color That Never Fades

satsangat kee rayn mukh laagee kee-ay sagal tirath majneethaa.
I anoint my forehead with the dust of the Society of the Saints; it is as if I have bathed at all the sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
||2||19||42||
Says Nanak, I am dyed in the deep crimson color of His Love; the Love of my Lord shall never fade away. ||2||19||42||

In plain words

The dust of the Sangat touched my forehead, and it was like bathing at every holy place on earth.

Nanak says, I have been dyed a deep, glowing crimson of love — and this is a color that will never, ever wash out.

A love that has soaked in is like a deep dye that never washes out.
The deeper layer

Majeeth is the madder root, which dyes a red so fast it never fades — the classic image of a love that has soaked all the way in.

The verse quietly reframes ritual: the ren, the humble dust of the Sangat (satsangat) — people gathered together to remember the One — is said to have accomplished sagal tirath, all the pilgrimage bathings, at once. What counts is not the sacred place you travel to but the love you are steeped in.

A Question to Sit With

What is a love or a lesson that has soaked so deep into you that it will never wash out?
