hirdai naam amrit ras rasnaa ras gaavahi ras beechaaray.
Within their hearts is the ambrosial essence of the Naam, the Name of the Lord; they savor this essence, sing the praises of this essence, and contemplate this essence.
gur parsaad amrit ras cheenHi-aa o-ay paavahi mokh du-aaray. ||2||
By Guru's Grace, they are aware of this ambrosial essence; they find the Gate of Salvation. ||2||

In plain words

Inside them is the sweet nectar of the Name, and they taste it, sing it, and turn it over lovingly in their minds.

By grace they come to know that sweetness for themselves — and it opens the door to freedom.

The Naam is a sweetness you can taste.
The deeper layer

The Naam is a sweetness you can taste.

Hirdai naam amrit ras — in the heart is the nectar-taste of the Naam. Rasnaa ras gaavahi ras beechaaray — the tongue tastes it, sings it, and thinks it over. Three ways at once: tasting, singing, thinking.

Gur parsaad, by the Guru's grace, they come to know that sweetness, and it opens mokh du-aaray, the door to freedom. Think of a favourite fruit. Someone can describe it all day, and one bite tells you more.

A Question to Sit With

What's something you love so much you enjoy it three ways at once?
