Where Peace Already Lives

ਸੂਖ ਮੰਗਲ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਘਰਿ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਸਰਣੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
sookh mangal kali-aan jisahi ghar tis hee sarnee paa-ee-ai.
Peace, joy and salvation are in His Home. Seek the Protection of His Sanctuary.
tiseh ti-aag maanukh jay sayvhu ta-o laaj lon ho-ay jaa-ee-ai. ||1||
But if you forsake Him, and serve mortal beings, your honor will dissolve like salt in water. ||1||

In plain words

Everything you are looking for — peace, joy, freedom — is already at home in the One. So make your home there too, the way you head for the place where you feel safest.

When you go chasing after people to prop you up and forget that home, something in you quietly wears away, the way a pinch of salt disappears in a glass of water. Stay close to the source, and you stay whole.

Make your home where peace already lives, and you will not wear thin.
The deeper layer

The image is laaj lon — honor dissolving like salt in water. It is not a punishment but a picture of what happens when we hang our whole worth on other people’s approval: it thins out and vanishes. Sarnee is sanctuary, the shelter of the One, where sookh, mangal, kali-aan — peace, joy, and freedom — already live.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt most solid and whole — was it while chasing someone’s approval, or when you felt at home?
