Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, his mind is satisfied. Peace and tranquility come to abide within his mind.

When the Guru becomes merciful, the mortal finds the Lord; he focuses his consciousness on the Lord's Lotus Feet. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whenever I sing the One's praises, my mind fills up and settles, and a deep calm moves in to stay.

When grace arrived, I found the One, and I rested my whole attention at those feet.

Singing the One's praises fills the empty, restless space inside.
The deeper layer

Singing the One's praises fills the mind and settles it.

Jab gun gaa-ay tab hee man tariptai — whenever the praises are sung, the mind is satisfied. Saant vasai man aa-ay — calm comes to live inside.

Gur kirpaal bha-ay tab paa-i-aa — when the Guru became kind, the One was found. Har charnee chit laa-ay — the whole attention rests at the One's feet. Think of a cold glass of water on a hot afternoon. One long drink, and you feel full and calm.

A Question to Sit With

What fills you up and calms you at the same time?
