Sublime and exalted is the speech of one whom the Lord, in His Mercy makes His Own.

Those who are imbued with God in the state of Nirvaanaa, O Nanak, are emancipated in the Saadh Sangat. ||2||59||82||

In plain words

When the One reaches out in kindness and claims someone as Their own, even that person's simple words turn beautiful.

Nanak says: in the Sangat we are carried across — all those whose hearts are colored through with the One, at peace and free of wanting.

Grace reaches for you first; belonging is received, not earned.
The deeper layer

The One reaches out first, and whoever the One claims finds even their words turning beautiful.

Kar kirpaa jo apunaa keeno means "whoever the One, in kindness, makes Their own." The first move belongs to grace. It is the One who reaches out.

From that belonging, even plain speech becomes ootam, fine and lovely. Think of how a child who feels loved speaks more gently and more freely.

Nirbaanee comes from the word nirvana. Here it means deep peace, free of grabbing and wanting. Those colored by the One in that peace are carried across, together, in the saaDhsang, the Sangat.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to be claimed as someone's own — to belong?
