Says Nanak, the Guru has eradicated my doubt; my light has merged into the Light. ||2||60||83||

In plain words

We melt back into the very One we first came out of. That One is the substance of everything that is.

Nanak says: the Guru cleared away my doubt, and my little light slipped into the great Light, the way a candle flame joins the sunrise.

Your small light was never separate from the great Light.
The deeper layer

We go back to the One we came from, like light joining light.

Jah tay upji-o tahee samaano — we merge back into the source we came from. Picture a wave settling back into the ocean. Saa-ee basat ahee — that One is the real stuff of everything that is.

Jotee jot samhee means my light merges into the Light. Jot is light. This is the Gurus' picture for the end of feeling separate. The little self is not wiped out. What melts away is only the false feeling of being cut off.

That happens once the Guru removes bharam, doubt. Think of a drop of water that feels alone on a window. When it slides down and joins the others, it was water all along.

A Question to Sit With

What is a doubt you would love to have cleared away?
