There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.
Sing a quiet song to the One and find peace and gladness. Facing the Teacher, you gather the sweet fruit of the One.
Meditate on the Name, and the aches carried across many lifetimes are wiped clean. I would give anything for my Teacher, who has set all my tangled affairs right.
When the One shows kindness and you hold the One in mind, that fruit of peace is yours. Listen, dear friends: sing a quiet song to the One and find peace.
sukh sohilrhaa har dhi-aavahu — dhi-aavahu, hold the One in loving attention, and a sohilaa, a song of gladness, rises. gurmukh har fal paavhu — facing the Teacher, you gather the fruit. The keynote of Guru Amar Das's Soohee chhants is su-kh, deep well-being that comes not from getting more but from remembering: janam janam kay dookh nivaaray, the accumulated aches ease. Remembrance here is warm and restful, never a chore.
What is a quiet practice that leaves you feeling more peaceful afterward?
