Sikhism·Raag Soohee·Shabad 102
Verse 3 of 4

All Are Yours, You Are Mine

jug meh raam naam nistaaraa.
In this age, emancipation comes only from the Lord's Name.
gur tay upjai sabad veechaaraa.
Contemplative meditation on the Word of the Shabad emanates from the Guru.
gur sabad veechaaraa raam naam pi-aaraa jis kirpaa karay so paa-ay.
Contemplating the Guru's Shabad, one comes to love the Lord's Name; he alone obtains it, unto whom the Lord shows Mercy.
In peace and poise, he sings the Lord's Praises day and night, and all sins are eradicated.
sabh ko tayraa too sabhnaa kaa ha-o tayraa too hamaaraa.
All are Yours, and You belong to all. I am Yours, and You are mine.
jug meh raam naam nistaaraa. ||3||
In this age, emancipation comes only from the Lord's Name. ||3||

In plain words

In this whole age, it is the Name that carries a heart across. From the Teacher rises a reflective, thoughtful turning-over of the Word.

Turning the Word over, one comes to love the Name — and the one the One is kind to receives it. In easy peace they sing the praises day and night, and all their missteps fall away.

Everyone belongs to You, and You belong to everyone; I am Yours, and You are mine. In this whole age, it is the Name that carries a heart across.

The One belongs to everyone, and I belong to the One — a closeness no rank can rearrange.
The deeper layer

The refrain jug meh raam naam nistaaraa places the whole hope in the Name. The warm center is the line sabh ko tayraa too sabhnaa kaa, ha-o tayraa too hamaaraa — all belong to You and You to all; I am Yours and You are mine. This is belonging without hierarchy: the same One holds everyone, so no one is closer by rank. gur tay upjai sabad veechaaraa — reflective contemplation of the Word arises from the Teacher; loving the Name grows out of thinking it through, not away from it.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to know you belong to something, and it belongs to you too?
