ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣਾ ॥੧॥
sadaa sadaa parabh ka-o balihaarai naanak sad kurbaanaa. ||1||
Forever and ever, Nanak is a sacrifice to God, forever, a devoted sacrifice. ||1||

My Perfect Teacher is my best friend; I know no one else like that.
The One is my mother and father, my brother and child and family, the very breath of my life — so dear to me.
My body and soul are all His gifts, brimming with every good quality. In His shelter I find every comfort, completely at peace — and forever grateful.
The One can be mother, father, friend, and family all at once — every belonging in one.
The deeper layer
maat pitaa bhaa-ee sut bandhap — the One named as every family role at once: the single relationship that contains all belonging. jee-o pind sabh tis kaa: body and soul themselves are His gift, so gratitude is the natural key. sarab kali-aanaa, total well-being, found in His sanctuary (saran).
