Says Nanak, God has been Merciful to me; my mind is attached to His Lotus Feet. ||4||3||6||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
In plain words
This is the real treasure, the true good fortune and wealth: a heart resting at the One's feet.
This is the only pleasure I want — my mind held close to the One, in His shelter, the Maker behind all making.
Everything is Yours; You are my God, so gentle with the small and empty-handed. I come with nothing of my own, Beloved, ocean of peace — and in good company my heart woke up, held to You by Your own kindness.
The real treasure is a heart resting at the One's feet — nothing else compares.
The deeper layer
This verse says what real wealth is: being close to the One.
Ayho var ayhaa vadi-aa-ee: this is the blessing, this is true greatness. The verse gives new meaning to "rich" and "great." The real fortune is nearness to the One, not the things we own. A kid might have the newest phone and still feel lonely. Another might have little and feel full of love.
Mohi nirgun means "I have no merit of my own." This is not putting yourself down. It is being honest, like arriving empty-handed at the home of someone generous. The One is sukh saagar, an ocean of peace, with plenty to give.
Satsang man jaagaa: in satsang, good company, my heart woke up.
