Those who meditate on the True Lord are true; they contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

He alone understands, whom the True Lord causes to understand; what can the helpless creatures do? ||8||

In plain words

Those who keep Truth in mind become true; they think deeply on the Guru's Word.

They quiet the ego, their minds come clean, and they keep the Naam close in their hearts.

The foolish cling to their houses, mansions and balconies.

Those who follow only their own wants are lost in the dark; they do not know the One who made them.

O True One, only the one You help to understand comes to understand. What can a small creature do on its own?

Understanding is a gift, so meet others with humility, not judgment.
The deeper layer

sach dhi-aa-in say sachay = those who hold Truth become true. kothay mandap maarhee-aa lag pa-ay = clinging to houses and mansions, investing in the passing. jis bujhaa-ihi so bujhsee, ki-aa jant vichaaree = understanding is given, so there is no room for contempt toward those still lost — humility, not judgment.

A Question to Sit With

Is it easier to judge someone for not getting it, or to remember you were once there too?
