The Quarrel That Ends When You See the One

Pauree:
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਹੈ ਕੂੜੋ ਹੋਇ ਗਇਆ ॥
maa-i-aa moh sabh koorh hai koorho ho-ay ga-i-aa.
Attachment to Maya is totally false, and false are those who go that way.

Through egotism, the world is caught in conflict and strife, and it dies.

gurmukh jhagarh chukaa-i-on iko rav rahi-aa.
The Gurmukh is free of conflict and strife, and sees the One Lord, pervading everywhere.

Recognizing that the Supreme Soul is everywhere, he crosses over the terrifying world-ocean.

His light merges into the Light, and he is absorbed into the Lord's Name. ||14||

In plain words

Love of Maya — the pull of things and money — is all false, and those who follow it become false too.

Ego starts a quarrel, and the world, caught in the quarrel, dies.

The one turned toward the Guru is free of the quarrel and sees the One in everything.

Knowing the One Soul in all, that person crosses the frightening ocean of the world.

Their light melts into the great Light, and they merge in the Naam.

The quarrel ends the moment you see the One shining in everyone.
The deeper layer

haumai jhagrhaa = the quarrel born of ego and separateness, the root of conflict. gurmukh jhagarh chukaa-i-on, iko rav rahi-aa = seeing the One everywhere ends the strife. aatam raam pachhaani-aa = recognizing the Supreme Soul in all, the direct fruit of Ik Onkar. jot samaanee jot vich = light merging in Light.

A Question to Sit With

How does an argument change when you remember the other person is just like you?
