Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

There is only one Beloved for everyone who stands at the door.

Nanak says: they ask for news of the Beloved from those already soaked in that love.

There's one Beloved for everyone, and we learn of the One from those already in love.
The deeper layer

There is one Beloved for everyone who comes to the door.

iko kant sabaa-ee-aa jitee dar kharhee-aah — there is one kant, one Beloved, for all who stand at the door. Every seeker is reaching for the same One.

naanak kantai ratee-aa puchheh baat-rhee-aah — they ask for news of the Beloved from those who are ratee-aa, soaked in that love.

Think of a new student at school. She asks the kids who have been there longer where to go and what to do. That is the gift of the Sangat, people gathered together to remember the One. Those further along help the rest of us find the way.

A Question to Sit With

Who do you go to when you want to understand something you deeply care about?
