In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Following the Guru's guidance, I searched my own inner world — every corner of it — like someone looking through their whole house.

And there, inside all along, I found the greatest treasure: the Name of the One.

The treasure you're looking for is often hidden inside your own house.
The deeper layer

The greatest treasure is not far away. It is inside us.

Gurmat nagree khoj khojaa-ee — following gurmat, the Guru's teaching, I searched the nagree again and again. Nagree means a village or town. Here it means our own body and mind, the little town we live in.

Think of looking all over the house for a lost ring, then finding it in your own coat pocket. The poet searched inside and found har har naam padaarath — the treasure of the One's Name. It wasn't brought in from far away. It was there all along, waiting to be found with the Guru's help.

A Question to Sit With

What might you find if you looked more closely at your own inner world?
