Keep the Sweetness Close

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
gurmat ras raakho ur Dhaar.
Under Guru's Instructions, keep this subtle essence enshrined in your heart.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
har ras raatay rang muraar. ||2||
Those who are imbued with the subtle essence of the Lord, are immersed in celestial bliss. ||2||

In plain words

Following the Guru's guidance, keep this sweetness tucked safely in your heart, close and cared for.

The ones who are soaked in it live immersed in a quiet joy that doesn't run out.

A sweetness worth having is one you keep close, not one you taste and forget.
The deeper layer

Keep the sweetness of the One close in your heart, so it stays.

Gurmat ras raakho ur Dhaar — with gurmat, the Guru's guidance, keep this sweetness in your heart. Ur Dhaar means to hold it in the heart, to give it a home there.

This sweetness is not meant to be tasted once and then lost. It is meant to be kept. Think of a favorite song you save to your phone, not one you heard once on the bus and forgot. Because it is kept, the joy stays.

Har ras raatay rang muraar — those soaked in this sweetness live in the joy of the One's love.

A Question to Sit With

What is something good you want to keep close to your heart?
