By Guru's Grace, the Lord comes to dwell in the mind; He cannot be obtained in any other way. ||1||

In plain words

Wherever you turn toward the One with love, right there the One becomes your friend and your help. It is not far off in some special place.

Through grace, the One comes to live in the mind, and there is no shortcut or trick that brings it any other way.

Turn toward the One anywhere, and there it becomes your friend.
The deeper layer

The One becomes our friend wherever we remember the One with love.

Jithai har aaraaDhee-ai tithai har mit sahaa-ee — wherever the One is loved, there the One is friend (mit) and helper (sahaa-ee). It doesn't have to be a special building. A kitchen, a bus, a classroom — any place works.

Then: by gur kirpaa, the Guru's grace, the One comes to live in the mind. Horat biDh la-i-aa na jaa-ee — there is no other way to get it. Think of a real friendship. You can't buy it or trick your way into it. It is given and received. The One's closeness is like that. It is a gift, not a shortcut.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you feel closest to something bigger than yourself?
