Sikhism·Raag Soohee·Shabad 21
Verse 4 of 5

All Belong To You

sabh ko tayraa tooN sabhnaa kaa mayray kartay tuDh sabhnaa sir likhi-aa laykh.
All belong to You, and You belong to all, O my Creator Lord; You wrote the words of destiny on the forehead of everyone.
jayhee tooN nadar karahi tayhaa ko hovai bin nadree naahee ko bhaykh. ||3||
As You bestow Your Glance of Grace, so are mortals made; without Your Gracious Glance, no one assumes any form. ||3||

In plain words

Every single being belongs to You, and You belong to all of them; no one is left outside. You are woven into each life from the start.

Whatever loving look You turn our way is what shapes us. Nothing takes its form at all without Your gaze resting on it first.

Everyone belongs to the One, and the One belongs to everyone.
The deeper layer

Everyone belongs to the One, and the One belongs to everyone.

Sabh ko tayraa — all are Yours, and You are everyone's. No one is left out. The verse also says the Maker wrote on each forehead, an old way of saying each life has its own path.

Then: as You look on us with grace, so we become. Nadar means a kind, loving glance. Think of a plant turning toward the sun. It grows because of the light that falls on it. Bin nadree naahee ko bhaykh — without that glance, nothing takes shape at all. Grace isn't a prize we win. It is the ground we stand on.

A Question to Sit With

What changes when you remember that no one is truly left outside?
