All Happens By Your Will

ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥
soohee mehlaa 4.
Soohee, Fourth Mehl:
ਕੀਤਾ ਕਰਣਾ ਸਰਬ ਰਜਾਈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਚੈ ਜੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਕੀਐ ॥
keetaa karnaa sarab rajaa-ee kichh keechai jay kar sakee-ai.
All that happens, and all that will happen, is by His Will. If we could do something by ourselves, we would.
ਆਪਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖੀਐ ॥੧॥
aapnaa keetaa kichhoo na hovai ji-o har bhaavai ti-o rakhee-ai. ||1||
By ourselves, we cannot do anything at all. As it pleases the Lord, He preserves us. ||1||

In plain words

Everything that happens, and everything still to come, flows from the One’s will, the way existence itself moves.

On our own, we cannot force a single thing into being. We are held and kept exactly as the One sees fit, and that is enough.

We cannot force life; we can rest in the flow that holds us.
The deeper layer

keetaa karnaa sarab rajaa-ee — all doing rests in the rajaa (will), the Hukam, the flow of existence. aapnaa keetaa kichhoo na hovai — the honest limit of the separate self’s power, met not with despair but with trust in being “kept” (rakhee-ai).

A Question to Sit With

What is something you have had to stop forcing and simply let unfold?
