Verse 3 of 5

Friends Who Point Each Other Home

ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਕਉ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ॥
sakhee sahaylee ka-o samjhaavai.
One soul-bride counsels another,
ਸੋਈ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
so-ee kamaavai jo parabh bhaavai.
to do only that which pleases God.
ਸਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
saa sohagan ank samaavai. ||2||
Such a soul-bride merges into the Being of God. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

One friend gently reminds another: do the thing that is true, the thing aligned with the One.

A heart like that melts right into the One it loves.

Good friends remind each other of what is true.
The deeper layer

Friends help each other remember the One.

Sakhee sahaylee ka-o samjhaavai: one friend gently advises another. The advice is simple. So-ee kamaavai jo prabh bhaavai: do what pleases the One. That means doing what is true, not just what makes people clap for you.

It is like teammates reminding each other of the game plan during a hard match. Nobody walks this path alone. We help each other remember.

And the fruit is ank samaavai: the soul melts into the One's embrace, like a child running into a parent's hug.

A Question to Sit With

Who in your life points you back toward being your best self?
