In plain words

The teacher has put my own inner house back under my care — I am no longer pushed around by my whims; I am at the center of my own home.

My senses, which once ran me ragged, now work with me like helpers. I have gathered everything together, and my whole heart is thirsty for the One I love.

Real freedom is running your own inner house instead of being run by it.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan is saying: the Guru has put me back in charge of my own inner home.

Garihu vas gur keenaa means "the Guru put the house under my control." The house is my own self. Das daasee means the ten senses and doers of the body now work for me, like helpers, instead of bossing me around.

Think of a kitchen during a big family dinner. When no one is in charge, it's chaos. When a calm cook is running it, every helper knows their job. The senses aren't shut off. They just stop being in charge. And all of it turns toward pir, the Beloved. Aas pi-aasee pir ka-o lorhee means "I am thirsty and longing for my Beloved."

A Question to Sit With

Which of your impulses tends to run you — and how could you make it a helper instead?
