In plain words

My finest jewelry is being real; the light in my eyes is wonder at the One. The sweetness in my mouth is the Name itself.

Dressed like this — in truth, awe, and love — the whole heart fills with joy the moment the Beloved comes home.

The truest beauty is being real, full of wonder, and holding the Name.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan is saying: the best way to dress up is with truth, wonder and the Name.

He takes a bride's getting-ready and turns each item into something inside. Sat seegaar means truth is her decoration. Bha-o anjan means awe is the eyeliner that makes her eyes clear. Bha-o here is not being scared. It is wonder and deep respect. Amrit naam tambol means the Name is the sweet betel leaf in her mouth. Betel leaf was a treat offered at happy occasions.

Think of getting ready for a big day. The best part of how you look is a happy, honest face. The soul makes itself beautiful from the inside, with what is true, to welcome the Beloved home.

A Question to Sit With

What makes a person beautiful in a way that has nothing to do with their looks?
