Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

How can this aching, humble heart ever be comforted?

Come and meet me, my Friend — I would give anything to be with You.

The heart is comforted not by things but by nearness to what it loves.
The deeper layer

This one means the heart calls out for its Friend to come.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad.

kin biDh hee-aro Dheerai nimaano — how can this humble heart be comforted? Nimaano means small and humble.

mil saajan ha-o tujh kurbaano — come and meet me, Friend, I would give anything for You. The One is called saajan, which means Friend. That word is warm and close. It is how you talk to your best friend after being apart too long. The heart asks for only one thing: to meet.

A Question to Sit With

Who or what actually comforts you when your heart is aching?
