Sikhism·Raag Soohee·Shabad 34
Verse 4 of 5

Where Nectar Rains

ਤਹ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਨ ਹਰਖਾ ॥
tah maran na jeevan sog na harkhaa.
Neither birth nor death is there, neither pain nor pleasure.
ਸਾਚ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵਰਖਾ ॥੩॥
saach naam kee amrit varkhaa. ||3||
The Ambrosial Nectar of the True Name rains down there. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In that inner space there is no coming or going, no swinging between sorrow and excitement.

Instead, the sweet nectar of the True Name rains down softly and steadily.

Beneath the ups and downs there is a steady peace, sweet as falling rain.
The deeper layer

teh maran na jeevan sog na harkhaa — beyond the seesaw of birth and death, grief and elation, is a settled equanimity. saach naam kee amrit varkhaa — into that stillness the Name rains like amrit (nectar). This is sahaj: not numbness, but a peace rooted in something the ups and downs cannot shake.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you stay steady when your feelings are swinging up and down?
