ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Soohee, Fifth Mehl:
ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
rahan na paavahi sur nar dayvaa.
The angelic beings and demi-gods are not permitted to remain here.
ਊਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਾ ॥੧॥
ooth siDhaaray kar mun jan sayvaa. ||1||
The silent sages and humble servants also must arise and depart. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Even the shining, powerful beings people imagine at the top of everything do not stay here forever.
Even the wisest, quietest, most devoted people rise up in their time and move on.
Nothing and no one stays here forever, and that is simply how it is.
rahan na paavahi sur nar dayvaa — not even dayvaa (celestial beings) remain; ooth siDhaaray... mun jan — even sages depart. The verse levels every rank before the simple fact of passing. Handled as a calm truth, not a fright: everyone shares this, so it need not be feared.
