Bliss in Beholding the Play

Your Glorious Virtues are infinite, O God, O Lord of supreme bliss. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Watching the wonderful, playful unfolding of the world, my mind fills with delight.

Your good qualities are endless, O One of the highest, purest joy.

The world seen with wonder becomes a play full of delight.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan is saying: watching the world the One made fills me with joy.

Paykh paykh leelaa man aanandaa means "seeing and seeing Your play, my mind is in bliss." Leelaa is the Divine play, the way the whole world unfolds. Aanand is deep joy.

Gun apaar prabh parmaanandaa means "Your good qualities are endless, O God of highest joy." Parmaanand means supreme joy. Think of watching waves at the beach, never the same twice, and never boring. The world is not a trap to run away from. It is a wonder to watch with delight.

A Question to Sit With

What is something ordinary that fills you with wonder when you really look at it?
