Verse 4 of 5

Trusting What Unfolds

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
jo kichh karai so-ee bhal maanai.
Whatever He does, accept that as good.
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥੩॥
aad ant kee keemat jaanai. ||3||
Know the value of the beginning and the end. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whatever unfolds, try to meet it as good — even the parts you would not have chosen.

The One knows the whole story, the beginning and the end, in a way we only ever glimpse a piece of.

You only ever see part of the story; the One sees all of it.
The deeper layer

This verse asks us to trust what the One does, because the One sees the whole story.

Jo kichh karai so-ee bhal maanai: whatever the One does, take it as bhal, good.

Aad ant kee keemat jaanai: the One knows the worth of the aad, the beginning, and the ant, the end.

Think of a big jigsaw puzzle. When you hold one odd piece, it makes no sense. The One sees the picture on the box. Our trust rests on that bigger view.

A Question to Sit With

Has something you did not want ever turned out to matter in a way you could not see at first?
