The One Awake In Everything

ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਗੈ ॥
sarab nirantar ayko jaagai.
Within and among all, the One Lord is awake.
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਕੋ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੩॥
jit jit laa-i-aa tit tit ko laagai. ||3||
As He attaches us, so are we attached. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The same One is awake and present inside everyone and everything, all at once.

As the One places us, so we are placed, each of us busy in our own part.

The same One is awake inside everyone, playing every part.
The deeper layer

This one says the same One is awake inside every living thing.

Sarab nirantar ayko jaagai means "within all, the One alone is jaagai," which means awake. Jit jit laa-i-aa tit tit ko laagai means each of us is busy with whatever the One has set us to do.

Picture a school play. There are many parts: the king, the tree, the narrator. But one director is awake behind all of them. In the same way, one awareness lives behind every part in the world. It is in the teacher, the bus driver, you, and the kid you have not met yet.

A Question to Sit With

If the same One were awake in everyone, how would that change a crowd for you?
