You are inaccessible and unfathomable, O my True Lord and Master.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਬੋਲਾਇਆ ਤੇਰਾ ॥੪॥੨੩॥੨੯॥
naanak bolai bolaa-i-aa tayraa. ||4||23||29||
Nanak speaks as You inspire him to speak. ||4||23||29||

In plain words

You are beyond my reach and beyond my full understanding, and yet You are truly mine.

Whatever I say that is good, I say because You move me to say it — the words are really a gift.

The best words we speak are ones we were somehow given.
The deeper layer

This one is about being humble and honest about where our good words come from.

Agam agochar sach saahib mayraa means "beyond reach, beyond knowing, true Master, and mine." Agam means out of reach. Agochar means too deep to understand. The One is too big to grasp, and yet close enough to call "mine."

Naanak bolai bolaa-i-aa tayraa means "Nanak speaks as You make him speak." Bolaa-i-aa means moved to speak, inspired.

Think of a great idea that pops into your head in the middle of a test. You did not quite build it yourself. It arrived. Guru Nanak says his best words are like that. They are a gift from the One.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever said something wise and wondered where it even came from?
