May I never forget, even for an instant, the Lord's Feet.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੪॥੨੫॥੩੧॥
naanak maagai daan pi-aaray. ||4||25||31||
Nanak begs for this gift, O my Beloved. ||4||25||31||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
May I always keep the shelter of the One close, not even a heartbeat without it.
That is the one gift I ask for, dear One.
The best gift to ask for is simply to never lose what matters most.
nimakh na bisrahi har charan tumHaaray — literally “may I not forget for a nimakh (instant),” here framed positively as always keeping close. naanak maagai daan pi-aaray — begging this one daan (gift). ||4||25||31||.
