Step Into The Shelter

ਸਰਣਿ ਸਮਰਥ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
saran samrath agochar su-aamee.
So enter the Sanctuary of the All-powerful, Unfathomable Lord and Master.
ਉਧਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੨੭॥੩੩॥
uDhar naanak parabh antarjaamee. ||4||27||33||
O God, O Searcher of hearts, please, save Nanak! ||4||27||33||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Step into the shelter of the One — powerful beyond measure, deeper than we can fully grasp.

Lift me and hold me, You who know the inside of every heart.

The shelter is always open — you only have to step in.
The deeper layer

This one means we step into the One's shelter and ask to be lifted up.

saran samrath agochar su-aamee — come into the shelter of the Master. That Master is samrath, able to do anything. The Master is also agochar, beyond what our minds can fully grasp.

uDhar naanak parabh antarjaamee — lift Nanak up, O God. The One is called antarjaamee, the one who knows the inside of every heart.

Think of a small child reaching up with both arms to be carried. That is the feeling of this line. It closes the shabad with hope.

A Question to Sit With

Where is a shelter you can step into when life feels like too much?
