Verse 4 of 5

Don't Blame Anyone Else

ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਅਪਨਾ ਕੀਆ ਪਾਈ ॥
din rain apnaa kee-aa paa-ee.
Day and night, they receive the rewards of their own actions.
ਕਿਸੁ ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਭਵਾਈ ॥੪॥
kis dos na deejai kirat bhavaa-ee. ||4||
Don't blame anyone else; your own actions lead you astray. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Day and night, what comes back to us grows out of what we ourselves have done.

So there is no use pointing fingers — the honest move is to look at our own choices and learn from them.

Look honestly at your own choices instead of pointing fingers.
The deeper layer

din rain apnaa kee-aa paa-ee — day and night one reaps one's own doing; kis dos na deejai kirat bhavaa-ee — blame no one else; one's own actions carry one along. A clear, empowering statement of kirat, the momentum of our own deeds — responsibility, not shame.

A Question to Sit With

When something goes wrong, how do you tell the difference between what was yours to own and what was not?
