Caught by the Shiny Things

Soohee, Fifth Mehl:
ਜਿਨਿ ਮੋਹੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਤਾਹੂ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਉ ॥

She has enticed the worlds and solar systems; I have fallen into her clutches.

O Lord, please save this corrupt soul of mine; please bless me with Your Name. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

The world is full of dazzling, tempting things that catch almost everyone's eye — and mine too; I get pulled right in.

Steady me, One. Help me hold onto what is real, and keep Your Name close in me.

The shiny things catch nearly everyone; it is okay to ask for footing.
The deeper layer

The rahaao. jin mohay barahmand khand — that which has enchanted whole worlds; raakh layho ih bikh-ee jee-o — steady this soul so easily pulled off course; dayh apunaa naa-o — grant Your Name. The original's bikh-ee (tainted) is rendered as honest empty-handedness: a soul easily pulled, asking for footing.

A Question to Sit With

What kinds of things pull your attention most easily?
